Acupuncture recommendations?

Unfortunately, my brother has badly injured his neck muscles while lifting weights. The muscles are now going into spasm and as a result he has had to take a long time off work. An appointment with his GP resulted in him being recommended acupuncture. Is this any good, and will it relieve the pain that he is suffering? Thanks.

I've tried acupuncture twice. The first time was for a bad back..it didn't work so I ended up going to a osteopath..which was successful. The 2nd time was for cluster migraines...it didn't work... so I kept on taking the drugs. However I do know plenty of people that swear by it.
