Just a post to endorse the final sentence (see below) of ABSpareEditors post which has responses barred. I feel sure that many Abers share my appreciation for their efforts.

i assume 'derogatory names/ phrases' are not allowed ?
Bazile, that is stated in the Site Rules.

5. Moderators must moderate according to the Site Rules.
Can I suggest changing "within 7 working days" to, "within a week" or "within seven days" to avoid accounting for weekends and Bank Holidays which sometimes differ in Scotland and Ulster?

That would avoid a suspension being increased by up to four days over Easter and Christmas for example.
Ok Ed

Some posts haven't been deleted , where such terms are used .

We will see if that changes in future
not sure about No 17: moderators suspending then reinstating. That sort of makes them judges imposing a fixed sentence which however they don't have to specify (and which they may very well forget if they then depart for six months on a space station or similar).

Wouldn't it be better if mods simply notified the Eds that they'd suspended someone and then left them to reinstate as and when they see fit?
missterious: "I believe its generally a week TTT. I think I have just read that on Spare Eds post. " - well I am something of an expert in this area. I have been suspended for anything from a couple of hours to a month. Usually in my case it's 24 hours.
"Wouldn't it be better if mods simply notified the Eds that they'd suspended someone and then left them to reinstate as and when they see fit?"

That is another option moderators can take. However, if left to their own devices, ideally suspended users will be reinstated within 7 days.
I do not understand "rhyming slang".
Why not use "plain English"?
interestingly spare ed has recently been observed as saying a banned user several times over is welcome to return ?? even though said poster's many identities and behaviour on and off AB is well reported ?
perhaps AB's own robots could automatically unsuspend offenders after 7 days, then? (Eds could override this at any time if they wished.)

I don't like to think of people stuck in durance vile forever purely by mistake.
I think we have been looking at our belly buttons too long
"ideally suspended users will be reinstated within 7 days." Have you changed it from "working days" to "days"?

If so, the new guidelines need amending.
"interestingly spare ed has recently been observed as saying a banned user several times over is welcome to return"

That is not what I said. What I said is that the members who are suspended indefinitely are usually banned members who have returned.
Murraymints, that is the final word on that topic. Let me remind you of this thread, specifically this line: "If you can’t do this then we must and will take action for the benefit of the community as a whole."
Murraymints I don't think Ed quite said that in those words. The Ed said a particular user was welcome but didn't refer to there past record of bans.
It seems abit odd to me that banned users are allowed back sometimes more than once. . THAT'S the managements right but inconsistent when some users are suspended permanently.
But it is what is it.

I think overall mods do a good job and we need them
I think mods were originally hired to deal with trolling - the place used to be disgusting by Sunday mornings. But if they got rid of them now, the site would quickly be waist-deep in gummies.
