I don't think this is the same problem that I've asked for help with previously. I changed the ink cartridges on my HP 6132. It printed the three pages I needed without difficulty, but next time I tried, it refused. Trying to print again from Word several times I had the message 'getting default printer' but nothing happened. I left it overnight and have just taken out and reinstalled both cartridges and tried to print an email (BT mail). Still no luck - message is 'google chrome is not responding'. I'm nervous about uninstalling and reinstalling the printer, but is that the best option?
I haven't, but as the problem first showed up when I was using Word via the Windows 10 menu I assumed it was a problem with the printer rather than the browser. I thought perhaps I hadn't clicked the new cartridges into place properly, but it doesn't seem to be that.
You need someone familiar with where the printer settings are. Probably in more than one place. Otherwise, as you mention, if all else fails, one can delete & reinstall the print driver.
Have you tried the switch it off then on again for both printer and PC ? Have you checked the cable plugs are in securely both ends ?
I had done, but I've double-checked and still nothing. I seem to remember there's some way of finding which printer is installed, but I can't remember where to look.
In Windows 10 search for device manager in the bottom LH corner, there should be a drop down list of devices connected to your computer, select printer and it should tell you if yours is the default printer, if not, make it so.
I just tried HP smart. The info was Connection status Active. I noticed that the country was Germany; tried to change it to UK, but it couldn't reset the country. It printed the status report but not the Web Access report. Also keeps telling me 'paper low' although I've just put more in.
I looked at a Youtube video, which didn't help except that he talked about the menu in Device Manager and mentioned 'plug-ins such as printers'. So is there something else I can click on to see my printer name? I have also now managed to delete the search box next to the Windows icon.
I tried that, Canary 42, but it won't load the print preview. (I'm only trying to print a short email message) It has now printed the Web access test results, 'no problems found, your printer has access to the internet' . So I don't know where to go from here.
Think I'm going to have to give up on this one. I finally managed to get the printer model no. to appear in the device Manager list, but nothing else has changed. I don't understand why it printed a couple of pages after I'd changed the ink and then refused to do any more. It still has a couple of months in guarantee, but I expect if Currys looked at it they'd find it was OK. And I can't get it there anyway, it's too big to go in my shopping bag...
