I've always kept a good stock of candles (result of growing up in immediate post-war years) but I can't remember when I last had to use one.

Our garden fork handle broke last year bobbin. I went to a local store and took a deep breath and asked where I would find them. The older lady creased herself laughing - the teenager looked baffled and directed me to the correct aisle. I really quite enjoyed it and we explained it to the kid, who smiled uncertainly. :)

Canary, we get lots of power cuts (rural E. Yorkshire) a couple of weeks ago it was off from 6 - 8 p.m. and blooming cold it was! That's why I always have candles in, plus remember post-war cuts and the 1970s.
