Am I mistaken or of late has pub food become lower quality and the atmosphere less pleasant while the price has skyrocketed ? Difficult to find a nearby pub I really want to eat at any more. Time was when a pub either only did, crisps, hot pies, or the like, or went out of it's way to compete with small restaurants/bistros. Now it's either dead or very noisy, and the offerings could be from a transport cafe.

You mean it's a dive?
We have a couple of really nice pubs near us with really lovely staff. One of our group of six is gluten free and one has a really good selection which is rare. They also offer half portions for those with a small appetite or a box if you want to take anything home.
MT 8.52. How do you mean a box to take home. Do you mean the remains of what you've not eaten?
Yes, pimply, a doggy bag
So i assume it's for the dog if you have one? Because i can't see anyone wanting to reheat scraps of remains the next day.
douglas, even the poached eggs and eggs benedictine are bought in ready to be dinged at Wetherspoons. I don't mind that - I know exactly what to expect and it's still good value.
