ashtanga yoga
3 Answers
i brought an ashtanga yoga dvd for beginners
i tried it today and nearly died!
(ok maybe thats a slight exaggeration)
some parts i just found so hard, and i couldnt do the whole thing
is it just because maybe i am not flexible/strong enough
or is it because it was my first time
someone please persuade me its worth carrying on, and doing it again. i dont have the motivation to do it myself!

People are under the impression tha yoga is easy but it is not, especially Ashtanga which is more energetic than the usual Hatha yoga. If you can find one join a class to learn the postures properly, then do the DVD.
Ashtanga is hard, but if you combine with a standard yoga or pilates dvd you should be fine, pilates will help you with the breathing, and a basic Hatha yoga dvd will teach you the basics more slowly. Ashtanga is faster so obviously harder to keep up when you first start, but Hatha is slower. Keep at it but listen to your body, if your in pain rather than pushing yourself, ease off. Dont expect to be able to do Ashtanga straight away! I have Yoga by MTV with instructor Kristin McGee, 2002 and its excellent to learn the positions etc. Im self taught, as is my housemate, and beleive me you will see the results, and feel the changes in a week! Just take it slowly, thats the beauty of the dvd, you can stop and go back etc, and nobody can hear you swearing or see you fall over!
