How is a masterpiece connected to climate change?
I can't actually see that?

Anyway, the painting is fine, it's protected by a pane of glass; the protest is symbolic.
pointless trying to connect logic to mindless vandalism
nothing's been vandalised, ael, except maybe where they glued their hands to the wall.
I trust they left them glued there for the next few weeks.

Could call it a modern art form.
Oh no, not another protest-against-protesters thread ;-)
I would never condemn the right to protest, but aligning your protest to the object of your opposition does help.

For that you need to be bright enough to know the difference between crude oil and oil paint
what is the connection between crude oil and oil paint and did van Gogh use crude oil to create his paintings?
I presume he would have used ready ground and tubed paints containing linseed oil. I don't think the protestors were claiming that he used crude oil, were they? I think they were trying to make a point about the contrast between the value given to a piece of painted canvas and the lack of value apparently attached to the preservation of human life on this planet. Or maybe they weren't.
Not the same protesters but I'd like to bet the banners and hi-vis vests worn by the road-blockers are made of plastic ie, oil.
Atheist - the mind-set of the protesters completely baffles me. I am confused.
LadyJ; They are very young and have strong feelings about their cause. The choice of sunflowers was probably made in the knowledge that it was protected, so I doubt they wanted to destroy it, just to make a splash - which it certainly has. Of course, it whips up violent emotions on all sides, and is not in my view a good way to act.
Atheist - // I presume he would have used ready ground and tubed paints containing linseed oil. I don't think the protestors were claiming that he used crude oil, were they? //

I doubt they were - my post referred to the fact that such a stupid pointless action does indicate the lack of intelligence that would question whether the protesters know what oil paint is.

// I think they were trying to make a point about the contrast between the value given to a piece of painted canvas and the lack of value apparently attached to the preservation of human life on this planet. Or maybe they weren't. //

I think so too - and the sort of ignorant badly reasoned nonsense that reaches a viewpoint like that, is then followed by an equally pointless and counter-productive method of expressing it.

Are these people really that stupid?

Yes, they very clearly are.

Passion and commitment are a useful addition to a well-thought-out campaign of protest, but as this stupidity shows, they are not a substitute for it.
Atheist - // Of course, it whips up violent emotions on all sides ... //

It does indeed, but sadly, the publicity and attention drawn to this action are entirely and uniformly negative and hostile, moving the cause espoused backwards with a speed the Starship Enterprise would struggle to match.
