Boys - cats are everything you say they are. They are sociopathic serial killers who think that the world revolves around them. They are also very loving towards their human family and are very smart.

Surely, with your superior intellect you can devise a simple way to deter cats from your gardens. Or do you all bow to this superior opponent?

My cats were all indoor cats because I live in a city centre. But not all cats would like this way of living.

When we had a cat she sometimes went outside but used a litter tray to do the necessary & (as you say) some cats live entirely indoors.

Bit more responsibility wouldn't go amiss.

I have had mobility problems caused by taking Lithium for too many years. A couple of years ago I fell down the stairs and landed in the kitchen.

Frankie came over to see if I was okay. He stomped all over me and made sure I was alive. He then pushed his food bowl towards me, still lying on the floor, and said "feed me fatso".

Cat slaves are very aware of the fact that they are being used and being bullied.
They are still fascinating and entertaining.

Since when did getting away with messing my garden, make a cat superior? This "superior opponent" you talk about is also the biggets threat to small wildlife in this country and will kill birds, rabbits, mice etc just for the fun of it.

I don't think "it's for fun" when they are following deep set instincts.

If there wasn't a weird connection between women as witches and cats as their familiars, maybe the plague wouldn't have been quite so devastating. I'm not saying cats would have stopped it, but the rat population would have been reduced.

And according to the RSPB, more birds die of other causes than as the prey of cats.

IMO it should be the Law that all cats wear a quick release collar with a bell when outside. At least the noise (tinkling) of the bell would make birds aware of a cat being in the vicinity and give them a chance to get away.

Not all cats kill birds. My last boy just could not be bothered. He could be stretched out under his tree with up to 20 chaffinches hopping round within feet of him. If a wren or robin started their alarm call he would back off.

He was a prolific hunter tho of rats and mice. Since he left us, we have more rodent activity and other villagers have lamented his loss for the same reason.

He used to do his business in his tray, in the field opposite or sadly on the neatly clipped lawn of the Hall (I told the owners to squirt him with a hosepipe, but they refused on the basis he was excellent rodent control).

Cats are manipulative, devious, malevolent, destructive, affectionate little characters. I can't believe someone chucked my kittens out like rubbish. They are adorable devils.

I shall try and encourage them away from birds; I shall try and encourage them to do their business in my garden. But cats do their own thing.

The Egyptians used to worship them as gods and cats have never forgotten that.

At present 7 indoor / outdoor cats live with me. Very seldom do they bring me a bird but they do keep the horse food shed free of rats. They all appear for breakfast and dinner at 8am and 5.00pm when the dogs are fed. They all have their own sleeping places in and outdoors. One wakes me at 7am and one sleeps with me. They enjoy being with the dogs and often snuggle together

No, LB. I put snap off collars on ASBO and twice he nearly hanged himself. They didn't snap off. With so many trees and hedges out here, I am reluctant. But when these two go out I shall take them out harnesses to start with and try and teach them "no" to birds. (Altho the resident robin will probably put them in their place).

I don't know why ASBO couldn't be bothered with birds (possibly because I had chickens). In fairness he did take a couple of partridges, and in his younger days he had the odd pigeon, but he just didn't bother with birds.

There are so many mice and rats out here tho, it's easy pickings for them.

Did Asbo not have a run-in with the chicken? They may have scared him off chasing the birds.

Gardeners need to find a way to scare or startle the invading cats. My brother had a similar problem with his garden and the cat from next door. The cat moved home and now my brother has only the Foxes to cope with.
