I have set up an avatar according to AB instructions. But I can't link it to AB using AB instructions because there is no little box to click on my profile, I have sent 3 emails to the eds who have sent me the same instructions and now asked me to as for help in Technology! Any ideas.

Now go to 'view my profile'
A profile screen should start up and you will see a command button marked 'Edit Profile' Click this.
A new screen should open up with a check box (tick) below the photo. Click on it to show a tick.
Do you see any of that?
If not try another browser and let us know how you get on.

AB's server actually has three different versions of this site on it. One is for PCs and laptops, one is for tablets and the other is for phones. So, depending upon which type of device you're using, what you see might not exactly match up with what I see.
However, when I first click on 'View your profile', I see a box to activate/deactivate my avatar underneath the statistics:

If I then click on 'Edit my profile', there's a tick beneath my avatar to show that it's activated:

If your avatar isn't showing up, it's because AB hasn't got the same email address in your registration details as the one that you used to register with Wordpress/Gravatar with.

>>> it can be done with one program
It can, indeed, be done with one program, YMB, but such 'responsive web design' software actually creates three separate websites that are then co-hosted at a single web address. The system then detects the type of device which is being used to view AB and displays the appropriate version.

Simple ensure that the email address that you've got registered with AB is the same as the one that you use with Wordpress/Gravatar. (If necessary, create a new Wordpress/Gravatar account, using your 'AB address'). Your email address is the only link between your AB account and your Gravatar one. When you use AB, the site's server sends your email address to the Gravatar server, with a message effectively saying "Please supply the avatar that goes with this address". So it's essential that the address that Gravatar has for you is the same one that AB has for you.
