In it's blurb it says he drank as many as 100 units a week.
That works out at about a bottle and a half of wine each day. While that would be harmful to health in the long run it wouldn't impress a seasoned boozer. Could he have underestimated the amount he imbibes?

it's a lot more than I can imagine myself drinking; but I suppose everyone gets to decide for themselves how much is too much.

(He is I believe the Guardian editor's boyfriend so writes a lot of stuff for them.)
I wonder, Sandy if it's a bit like telling your doctor you smoke five a day when you smoke twenty?

Holy Watney's Red Barrels.

On that premise, his intake would increase 4 fold.
That equates to 400 units a week. Let's say an average pint of beer constitutes 3 units of alcohol. Then this would amount to 133 pints over a 7 day period. That works out to a daily consumption of 19 pints a day.

Surely not!

Peter Cooke, the comedian, was said to get through 6 bottles of wine each day. That's about 400 units a week.
Can't really see it selling to well, when most who need to read it won't be sober enough to do so. Not to mention the fact that he's not too well known, and the latter really helps and plays a big part in book sales.
He did an interesting TV programme about his drinking some while back
Uncomfortable viewing for many I'd have thought.
For some reason ( not for drinking) he was disliked for something but can't remember what it was now.
Didn't he get into trouble with some once for expressing support for Croatia's football team when they played England - or at least appear ambivalent about wanting England to win.
His mother I think it is being Croatian.
At the weekend, or days when i had no work on, I was a 20 pint a day man at my peak; 4 an hour for the first few hours down to 3 for the next couple, and paced myself for the rest of the 'shift'. Averaged about 10 pints per night after work. Went home when i got hungry. The heart attack in 2009 came as a surprise to none of my friends and family but, weirdly enough, came about a month after i'd ceased going to the pub because of the smoking ban.
Could have been? something happened on the TV set so could well be. Don't know if he was a heavy drinker at the time or started after losing his job. He tried to make a comeback with other things but really didn't make it to the level he was once at. Hope he does ok though he's not a bad person, just that his face don't fit anymore.
I thought he'd been given the elbow because he was the most boring presenter on the box?
In fact, one of my doctors prescribed watching him for an hour before bed each night as a remedy for my insomnia.
He did become very boring ken, you need a bit of sparkle for TV even if it's false.
// I thought he'd been given the elbow //

He reported Ron Atkinson for using the N-word. As far as his place in BBC circles, surely this would not have harmed his career prospects?
