I mean what does ER in relation to the Queen mean?????
Hardly warrants posting a thread -sorry to whom ever posted it -I didnt look cos I knew the answer - lol
I only ever post if I cannot get an answer elsewhere.
Sorry if this is the wrong topic but I couldnt find one which fitted my query.
Does anyone find this frustrating?
O Just to keep it right -is there anyway Q's can be screened if they have a very easily reached answer on this global phenonoman (sp? -should have googled lol) called the Internet?

Incidentally, whilst I knew what ER stood for, I was interested to read the posts which followed, learnt summet new anyway, so perhaps it wasn't such a daft post afterall?

I agree with B00 Snr, very often I have answers to extremely obscure and complex questions just sitting in my head waiting to nbe written down on here, and by the time i get to submit, someonje has posted a link to a site, fair enough, i do that myself very often, but like yeaterday, I explained about a primary course for historical research, which is nothing like anything else, but someone else decided to just post a link to a modern secondary source, which in fact is probably just a copy of a secondary source anyway. I wish people could try to use a Library now and again.
We had a discussion about this over in Q&P the other day .

Google isn't always reliable, especially if you're unsure of the spelling of key words (try googling phenonoman and see where it gets you). Typically, you'll get 1 billion responses, of which some will be wrong, and you won't know which ones. It can be simpler and more sensible to ask a question on AB where people will overlook the typos and understand what it is you want.
shaney -good point -but I can bet the majority go to google for their reply -double edged sword.Plus if u can use AB -as in the posters Q -then u can blooming welll use google.
My mother is in her seventies and I can assure u I would get a firm kikck up the backside if I deigned to post a question/comment concerning her in that manner.I wouldnt insult her intelligence.

I very rarely post questions on AB and when I do the majority of those questions are in Q&P.There is a lot of general knowledge stuff you can Google admittedly but when it comes to fiendish cryptic crossword answers Google is no help at all !
However other like minded people are a great deal of help.
It's swings and roundabouts really.
I am an expert on microfibre dusters and flood damage but know nothing about football so am really grateful when I get a quick answer from a footie expert for my crossword rather than wading through pages of statistics on Google.

Thanks for your replies.I only ever post on here if I have exhausted all avenues -I thought that was the pupose of AB.
4getme not -I think u are a wee bit deluded and I dont mean that in a confrontational way (I do find I have to be careful the way I phrase things on here cos theres ALWAYS someone lurking to belittle you) - but if there was a straw poll I would bet my house on it that ABers dont have that knowledge in their head -they will use another forum to either find out or confirm what they already thought..
jno -the problem is people dont overlook the typos on here as well you know -I hesitate to post a Q at times and am reluctant to go back to read the responses cos there will be a fasecious responce -guaranteed.
Pity the minority -as usual spoil it for the majortiy.

some people myself included prefer to get answers off "real" human beings well as real as you can be in the inrternet anyway. ab is just another search engine really, so if you have a question why is it morally superior to use google? i like the fact that people will give you supplementary info you havet asked for, or maybe add what their experiences are of things. I like the fact you can have a few views on things. I like the fact that there are some simple questions that i know the answers to! Alll the high fallutin' questions just leave me in dispair because i jdont just like to ask, i like to answer sometimes too!
to expand on what I said earlier: I've just googled ER and Queen. I had to go to the 12th answer found - on the second page of results - to get the answer to this one. That's quite a lot of irrelevant material to plough through to get the right result - especially if you still don't know if it's the right one and need to read some more for confirmation. Definitely a case for going first to AnswerBank!
