You'd have been old enough to go to the trenches in WW1. If you'd survived that, returned home and had a family, your sons could have been cannon fodder in WW2.

My Great Grandfather, born in 1898, served in WW1 age 17, his 2 sons served towards the end of WW11 in the merchant navy and royal air force, thankfully they all survived. We have a lot to be thankful for these days.
