For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.1. Moderators should read and understand the Site Rules. If a moderator is uncertain on any rule then they should email the Editors for clarity.
2. Moderators must abide by the Site Rules at all times. Instances where Moderators can 'break' the Site Rules is when they are trying to help enforce them, such as, 'Secret Moderators' and known moderators breaking site rule 11 to explain why a post was removed.
3. Moderators must read The AnswerBank's Terms of Use and adhere to them at all times.
4. Moderators must never moderate from a biased opinion. Moderators must always look at both sides of the coin when they are moderating, and they must leave personal feelings out of their decision.
5. Moderators must moderate according to the Site Rules. When in doubt, email the editorial team. The AnswerBank has a swear filter. Profanity will be blocked by the swear filter. Please only remove answers that deliberately avoid the swear filter. The AnswerBank swear filter changes some acronyms to ‘more funny versions’. An asterisk marks profanity, if a member posts a question or answer that contains what you consider to be profanity that is not asterisked out, please report it to the editorial team. Site rule 2 only applies to AnswerBank members, we cannot protect public figures or entities. Rhyming slang is allowed on The AnswerBank. It’s unfair to mute a form of expression, especially when it is not offensive.
6. Threads should only be closed if they are old and attracting spam, or if the thread is becoming out of control and needs a ‘cooling off’ period. ‘Out of control threads’ would ideally not stay closed for more than 12 hours, if possible. If moderators have closed a thread, they should contact the editors to explain why the thread was closed.
7. Moderators should try to avoid moderating disagreements that they are involved in unless the site rule that has been broken during the disagreement is very clear and defined. It's frowned upon to moderate an engagement where you're heavily involved.
8. Moderators must never become confrontational with AnswerBank members. If a moderator is explaining why a post or thread was removed, answers that stifle the purpose of the thread further than it has to be must also be removed, this helps to prevent a thread from becoming derailed, and stops discussion that might disagree with the moderator's action.
9. A moderator's word and action is final, until reviewed by the editorial team.
10. Moderators must accept that the Editor's decision is final. The Editors are open to discussion but we will not get into any form of confrontation or heated debate.

13. Moderators should uphold the quality of The AnswerBank at all times. This involves but is not limited to: Moderating users, Keeping The AnswerBank free from spam and unsolicited marketing, adhering to the Site Rules themselves, promoting healthy discussion values, removing libel content.
14. Moderators are encouraged but not forced to disclose their identity to the community. If a moderator does not wish to disclose their identity, they are encouraged to make a 'secret mod' account. Again, this is optional and not enforced. Moderators must inform editors of any 'secret mod' accounts. ‘Secret moderator’ accounts will be banned if they are not disclosed to us.

16. Moderators must never ban a well established AnswerBank member, for any reason. Well established members can be suspended, and their content can be removed, but their user status should never be changed to "Banned". A well established user is defined by the length of time they have been on The AnswerBank, or the number of questions and answers.
17. Moderators must remember who they have suspended, and make sure to reinstate the user within 7 working days, unless the editorial team has reinstated the user.
18. Moderators must give an accurate reason as to why they have removed content, or changed a user status. For example; Racism, Spam, Pure Stupidity, Other. If "Other", moderators must give a clear reason with their user report. Moderators should always try to give a clear reason as to why they have chosen to take an action. We will accept no information at all when it comes to obvious spammers, as this can be a tedious task.
19. Moderators must accept that moderating The AnswerBank is a thankless task. Please know that the Editors really appreciate your effort and the support that you give to The AnswerBank.
20. If a moderator is inactive for longer than a 6 month period then they may lose their moderator status.

21. The AnswerBank reserves the right to remove any answers that are off topic, however, this does not forbid members from going off-topic. We want to encourage discussion. Each time a member goes off-topic, moderators must rely on their own discretion. A moderator should leave an answer as active if they are uncertain, as it's unlikely to cause offence if you have to question it. Please email the editorial team if you have any questions or concerns.
