is there a simple food that you just cant master cooking or making??

mine is bacon and egg sarnie!!! whenever i do it, it taste and looks horrible!!!!!!

Rice. I am bloody rubbish !
Mac & Cheese - I can't even do the instant in a box and make it taste decent!!!

Larkin - I can give you a foolproof rice recipe.
Take a pot with a tight fitting lid. Take a cup or bowl or whatever you want to use for a measure. Fill it once with rice - dump it in the pot - fill it twice more with liquid (water or chicken stock or whatever you want to use). Bring it to a boil - put the lid on - turn off the heat and leave it sitting there for 15 or 20 minutes WITHOUT lifting the lid. When you open it, it will be perfect rice EVERY time.
RE the rice. I rinse all rice (even the stuff that says you don't need to) well in cold water before boiling, Do this by whisking it vigorously around in a pan of cold water with a fork or whisk, emptying the water and repeating a couple of times.
Then replace the cold water with boiled water bring it back to the boil and simmer on v low light for about 9 min. Then take a little on a fork put it under a trickle of cold water to cool it and sample it, do this every minute till it is as soft as you like it.
It never goes stoggy with this method :)

Poached egg. Infact i am not much good at fried eggs either! I prefer mine scrambled anyway
Vegetable soup. Just cant get it right, I want it to taste just like my mummy makes it and she has told me how but it never works;-o(
took me ages to work out why my Jelly wouldnt set ... then realised i was using all hot water ... not just a bit then topping up with cold !
Like janetsflower I am unable to do poached eggs. I have tried the swirling water thing, microwaving and just placing gently in the pan. I LOVE poached eggs but just cannot master them.
I would like to be able to cook a medium rare steak of any thickness, without having to cut it and check if it is cooked.
Batter puddings. They either turn out looking great then collapse into nothing or they cook on the outside edge but are soggy in the middle. All hail to Aunt Bessie!!
I can't do omlettes, they are always rubbish and give me headaches! If anyone knows how to make the perfect omlette I'd be most grateful.
Pancakes, I've given up. Just make it out of the ready-mix boxes now.
mines omelettes too, it either sticks to the pan or when you think it's cooked is soggy in the morning
