This came for me after the parade. We were dismissed on Horseguards, so I headed for the refreshments. The person in front of me was an 11/12 yr old girl, wearing a black and yellow scarf. I asked her which association she was with. She turned round and was wearing a set of miniature medals on the right side of her chest. She said she was with an association called Scottys' Little Soldiers, a charitable organisation that supports bereaved children of servicemen. I said that's a nice idea. Did you lose your dad? Yes, she said. It was suicide. I nearly burst into tears. I wasn't expecting that answer, for sure. But she was very nice and told me about the things they are doing. Well done those people. So sad...yet so brave for one so young. I hope she continues to do good as she grows up.

The fact that she said that it was suicide to you, a stranger, is a good thing. She hasn't tucked it away in a corner of her mind, with the chance that it could come back and haunt her at a later date.

You must seem like a trustworthy soul if she opened up to you.♥

Thanks for the replies folks. I must say I was temporarily lost for words at her response. And I did fill up! Sheesh! A few minutes later I saw one of the children from their association being interviewed by ITN. It may be on their website. I haven't looked yet.
