The time to have protested about the venue for the World Cup was when Qatar was awarded the competition. At that point, anybody with any integrity - individuals and organisations - should have simply said “We’re not going there.” End of story.
FIFA officials would have to have returned the various financial inducements that were undoubtedly dished out and the competition could have been relocated to somewhere less contentious and preferably to a country with an interest in football.
Wailing now about the country’s human rights record and that if there is any beer to be had it will be twelve quid a pint is ridiculous. A month of second rate football gumming up the telly and making many pubs unusable is bad enough without this cobblers.
