garages and mechanics
why oh why does it always happen when you state what you want to a mechanic in a garage they give you a quote you say ok do the job and then lo and behold when you come to pick it up it was a) much more difficult than he thought or b) (as in my case) i, apparently didn't tell him that the two cv boots i wanted doing, one was an outer and one an inner. which i know is a lie i know i told him three times, when i rang for quote, when i double checked and booked it in and when i handed over the boots to him? he apparently quoted for just two outers now hes got to take out the drive shaft and empty the gearbox, and there you go another 25. oh and i took it in yesterday morn at 9 im sat here now the following day at 11 still waiting! and i didnt get a call to ask about doing the extra work so its how do these people stay in business with such shoddy practice and does anyone know a decent garage/mechanic in the stoke on trent area.

It can be tricky sometimes as I found when I changed the outer boot on my Volvo 850 last week.
Like any profession there are good mechanics and bad ones. Looks like you chose a bad one there. Either way, you should have been quoted for two boots, a quantity of fresh gearbox oil, and labour for that job.
