On this photo on the front page of the Express, https://www.express.co.uk/ The King appears to be wearing at least 10 medals, what are these for ?

My grandad fought in the Somme & had a leg amputated in WW1 & had two medals. My dad served for 5 years in the RAF mostly in North Africa during WW2 & he also was given just two, so Charles must have done some amazing service to get ten don't you think?

I seem to have missed out on all his exploits.

Gives the under employed something to do with their time, polishing all those badges of entitlement and privilege that in the end mean nothing at all.
I see the sour grape bowl has been refilled again.
By 'sour grapes' do you mean 'doesn't chime with my world view'?
Virtue Signalling's got a dirty name currently, but one could argue that it applies to medal-wearing (certainly on the scale that royalty exhibit).

Like your Dad khandro, my Dad served in North Africa but all he got was a tombstone in Rome Military Cemetery. My full respect to your Dad for providing the air cover in the desert.
It has to be said that the Royals (and their spouses) do appear to get a medal each time they don't fart out of line. Even 'Jungle Mike' has a couple that weren't 'earned'.
You're not alone, dave. PP missed it too.

It would appear that some people get medals for simply being who they are & others for risking their necks & shedding blood, or as in say, Nobel prize-winners, some remarkable achievement.

I think wearing in them in a manner that is supposed to indicate valour or accomplishment is a bit of an insult to those that have done so.
Perhaps the ones won in theatres of war should be worn on one side, 'freebies' on the other side.
Only medal I ever got was the DCM from the Horse Boyle. ;-(
"It would appear that some people get medals for simply being who they are"

errr yes this is called monarchy
davebro, I think the default was just Mutt and Jeff. Some went on to the full Pip Squeak & Wilfred, which included the 1914-15 star.
As an aside, could the mistress ( now the wife ) have worn any more diamonds at the state banquet?. She reminded me of wee girls raiding the dressing up box .?
Anneasquith, referring to her as his mistress makes you sound awfully sour.
this thread has been sour from the start. Charles has more medals than my father! It's So Unfair!
I think the idea of different sides is a good one.
Don’t you like the truth Naomi ? You can’t change history, she was his mistress .
She was his mistress - but she isn’t now. She’s his wife and Queen Consort - and actually I thought she looked splendid is all her finery. Jewels fit for a Queen. That’s the truth, anneasquith.

//She was his mistress - but she isn’t now. //

Correct, like thousands of now happily married women, maybe some on AB ?
