while the HoL is an anachronism that needs dealing with, just wondering how Labour intend to do this in their first term. without Scotland, Labour have no hope of an overall majority and little chance of enacting anything that could be controversial. So is SKS going to get into bed with the SNP and give them the independence machinery they seek, in return for dealing with the HoL?

Yes, they'd at best get a minority government and that means they'll never get something like that through. Too many MPs see the HOL as their retirement home. Though I applaud the intention not so much the plans for further devolution.

Does the pledge to “abolish” mean there will be no second chamber at all? I think we need a second chamber, just not one setup like the current HOL

Devolution has been a great success for Scotland and Wales.
We need to close the Commons and the Lords and England should get its own devolved Assembly in Manchester or Birmingham.
The second chamber should be comprised of delegates put forward from the devolved UK assemblies the numbers being dictated by the populations of each country.

The SNP will get a majority in Scotland and want to abolish the Lords. It doesn’t really matter by what measure Labour win the GE, there is the backing to get the legislation through.
