to be able to drive?
My uncle has macular degeneration and has been having treatment on his 'good' eye. He's been for more treatment today and the consultant is really pleased with the improvement in that one eye. He asked if he was able to drive and was told, 'Yes, but not at night time.'

I am really surprised that he's been told this.

When I was a 20 something, I considered getting contact lenses. My ophthalmologist said he would prescribe for just my right eye as I was virtually blind in my left. This was due to eye surgery when I was 8 to correct an in-turned eye. The surgeon over compensated and my eyes do not focus together...I don't have binocular vision. What I see with my right eye, is all I see. I tend to squint/wink...otherwise I'll have a bit of double vision. I also have bad astigmatism.
I did try learning to drive, but plowed into a tree with my brother's car...and gave up on the idea.
Oh...and I have rotten depth perception.
Just googled it Atheist, I get it now. LOL.
I know a chap who has been blind in one eye for years, he drove car transporters, hazardous waste wagons and abnormal loads for a living up until the 1990s. No problems for him
Sorry, Canary, I was referencing a Mel Brooks film with Marty Feldman and Gene Wilder. Young Frankenstein (Gene Wilder) hated being addressed as "Frankenstine" because of his family's dark history, and so insisted on being addressed as "Fronkensteen".
That's awful pasta. Perhaps they should have waited until you were adult before operating. I do sympathise, it makes my impairment pale into insignificance.
You learn something new every day on here Arky ;)
Reading that confirms I'd be a menace on the road.
Actually...they probably did it too late. I think children are done at 2 or 3 now.
I'm not sure I'd want your problem either canary. It sounds like the blind spots I get at the start of a migraine...always scares me. You have my sympathy.
Pasta, Yes you do, well at least you could read it :-) sounds awful though :-/
Its funny, i was just wondering that myself, watched Antique Road Trip tonight where we saw Katie Piper driving.
I know she is blind in one eye.
