I have never seen a clue like this before and have no idea how to solve it. I do not have any letters from the other clues.

I have subsequently found the answer provided by the RTE Guide in which the puzzle appeared to be “seeped”. My guess is that the the blank space between the s and d was intended as an indication that that letters had “seeped” away and were therefore missing. No idea why it was written on two lines though.
