There's an air brick in the wall above my oil boiler. Could fumes from it be responsible for the alarm going off?

It's a smoke alarm, I think.
A neighbour came and replaced the battery but it has started sounding again.
Ah, no then.
Sometimes they'll keep chirping even after changing the battery.
What should be done is to remove the old battery and hold down the Test button for about 30 seconds to drain off any residual charge.
Then fit the new battery.

This is only if it chirps soon after battery change.
If it's ok for a while then goes off for no reason, then the whole thing probably needs replacing.
Our previous smoke alarm would start chirping if it was a bright sunny day - I reckon it was getting a bit toasty in the sunlight.

Problem solved now as it been replaced by the legally required interlinked alarms.
