Hi. I need to deal with a problem that's making me feel really embarrassed about sleeping over at other peoples houses and even self conscious about sleeping in my own house.

I've been told that I snore and it's something I've inherited from both parents. I did a test online to find out what was causing it, it was that one nostril is more rigid than the other (if you press down on your nostrils, it should leave indentations).
Because it's having one rigid nostril that's the issue I'm getting the feeling that a nose job would be the answer (preferably one that would correct the nostril to make it more flaccid, like the other one) but I don't have the money to get it done privately and if it was available on the NHS that would be great, but sadly my mum won't let me have surgery to have it done. So are there any other remedies out there that don't involve surgery?

As I said it's starting to embarrass me. The final straw came when my ex embarrassed me about it in front of the other guests at his dad's 60th birthday meal the last weekend in May; to cut a long story short, because of the distance between me and the meal location, I stayed at my ex's house the night before the meal and when we were eating starters, his mum asked me if I had slept ok, I said yes, and my ex embarrassed me in front of everyone else, saying, "You got to sleep before I did, cos I could hear you snoring." God was I mortified...

So any answers would be gratefully received.

Chris
I got married to a crab with sharp elbows, problem solved (and I sometimes get coffee in bed).
From what you describe, surgery is the only answer to your problem as it is a mechanical block, the septum (cartilage inside of the nose) and almost certainly a degree of displacement of the nasal bones.

To correct the cartilage, an operation called Septoplasy is available on the NHS and to complete the whole bone and cartilage procedure, a Septorhinoplasty could be performed and most surgeons would do it on the NHS.
what do you mean, your mum won't let you have surgery - how old are you?
Have you been to your doctor for a referal ?
my friend snores and is having a gadget put up his nose down his throat overnight... the Doc said it was either his tongue ( nothing can be done) or a loose throat where sugery wuld be the answer...
best check with your gp and ask for a referal to your ENT dept
I snore when I turn on my back, but not so badly on my side.

It has been suggested that a squash ball in a pocket on the back of the pyjama top would sort this out.
Unfortunately I don't wear pyjamas, so 'er indoors has to hit me.

@boxtops - I'm nearly 21 but yes you'd think my mum would not be so dictating at my age. This isn't the only thing she's been dictating me over...
