I'm 34 With No Gcses Is It To Late For Me!?

Hi all
So I have just turned 34 and I am kind of at a loss in life. I left school with no GCSEs due to being bullied badly I got in a rut of doing rubbish jobs I have been looking at doing some courses but can't help thinking I have left it to late! I just think I'm to old! I have been looking online at some GCSEs course to do from home I have had a look at learndirect but have seen that they are not proper GCSEs so might not be worth doing! Also I have read that they take about a year to do! I don't think I can cope with doing my job for another year! I don't even know what I want to do! I just feel i have wasted so much time and now am to old to get anywhere! Any advice or tips would be great

You are NEVER too old.
If you want something badly enough, then you will get it providing that you take the good times with the bad.
Hard work....more hard work....and then you are on the first step to attaining what you want.

Agree, it's never too late until you're in your wooden box. And it'll give a sense of achievement and self pride. I left Uni late, not quite as late as yourself, but I've never regretted it. I'm no expert but unless you can get a large loan to live on you may need to stay employed and study in your leisure time. Maybe accept we all need to earn an income, but make academic discovery your interest.

You need to focus. What sort of job do you want to do and what qualifications do you need to do it?
GCSEs may not be best route for you.

You may enjoy doing a GCSE or two- maybe just try one to start with- Maths or English while you carry on working until you decide on your next carrer move. It should be something you enjoy. Let us know what your preferref career is and we may be able to advise on teh best qualifications- be it GCSE, Adult literacy/numeracy or some sort of BTec

At the moment I work in a bar I'm not sure what I want to do I think I need to sit down have a look at careers and take it from there I just need to get over the age thing!

I believe that your local education authority will provide free classes for GCSE English and Maths, at evening classes.
Ask at your local library.
Don't recommend you do both in the same year.
Once you have 'conquered' those two important basics, have a look at the other subjects - whatever you are interested in: History, Geography, Art, Music etc.
Take your time and you will get there, and you'll have a great sense of achievement.
Investigate now, if you plan to do the Maths and English. I think the classes start in September.

I doubt if there is anybody who would think bad of you for wanting to improve your personal situation. As far as I am concerned working in a bar has meant you have developed skills that you have not even thought about! You may not have formal qualifications, but you have a wealth of life experience, mainly gained from your customers in the bar! Sit down and think about what those people have actually given you wisdomwise! Where do you want to go and what do you want to achieve. You have gained interpersonal and management skills, those are things that cannot be taught in a classroom or on an on-line course.
I worked in bars during my University time, and to be honest it helped me no end when I started my career. You are just thinking of doing it in a different way!

A good friend of mine decided, in her mid 30's, to fulfill a lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. She had to do English, Maths and Science GCSEs, then a pre uni course and then a degree. 10 years later she's a nursing Sister and very well respected in her nursing area.

The profession would be a poorer place without her in it, so go and find your passion and grab it.

It's never too late! I knew a lady who did teacher training in her mid forties!
