After breaking my usb port as it was loose I had another fitted, which now fits snugly, but despite being professionals (?) the shop gave up the job when it wouldn't connect electrically to the unit and let me have it back for no cost. It is better than before as the bust socket wouldn't take a cable and this does, but it's dead.

I've been online and seen people open them and fiddle around, but all they did was replace the little metal female unit and solder a new one back. I opened it up and nothing's loose in there, all I can think is either there's a dry joint, or far worse they didn't use a heat sink properly and burnt something out. However the computer worked perfectly before the battery went flat so I'm hoping it can't be anything has melted. It's very odd the internal connections are intact yet it's dead and they didn't bother to sort it out and get their fee, but before I take it somewhere else has this happened to anyone else? It's a Prestigio Multipad 7 and not that old.

I'd tend to agree with you regarding connections. Either a bad electric joint or maybe a solder short, perhaps thin enough to be difficult to spot. My suggestion would be to take it elsewhere for checking. Somewhere where they can perform electrical checks and look at the circuit board under a microscope. Good luck with it.
