PLUMBING BANGING

Hi All,

I have lever tap in the downstairs sink, and when we turn the tap off ( cold mains water, not the hot side) it gives a big bang through the plumbing system.
any ideas?

Mine does too if I operate it very quickly - seems to be a disadvantage of these taps, but if you get a solution here I will certainly be interested :)

"Water Hammer", Percy .......... it's the sudden change in pressure when a valve is shut off suddenly...........

fit an "arrestor" in the cold supply pipework............

I have turned the water pressure down at the stopcock, and that has helped, the hammer is not so bad, but will get the device, as one of those push on quick fit joints has started leaking, probably because of the great shudder through the system.

Perce ........... they're usually a 1/2" spigot (sticky-outy threaded bit), so you'll need a 1/2" tap connector (same as fits to kitchen taps and basin taps.
