Depression
7 Answers
I know there are many kinds of depression and depression is rampant. I am unfortunately one of its victims because of various reasons. The most obvious one is childhood trauma. I know we are in control of our own destinies but it just seems like in an average life there is more to be depressed about than not and most often bad times cannot be blotted out. Could I hear from anyone who has had success with meeting trouble head on and landing on both feet. I know it is simple to say to focus on the glass half full rather than empty and to say or look to one's blessings. It is just that sometimes both are difficult to do. I guess you could say that it sounds like I am depressed. You got that right!

I am so sorry you are suffering with depression-it's horrible and I speak from experience :( You are right when you say that it's very hard to see any positives when you're feeling like that as I well know.
Are you having any treatment for your depression? I found that CBT really helped me (plus an excellent and caring doctor!).
I can only tell you my experience-I get 'the black dog' on and off but somehow, (using CBT techniques mainly) I get through it. I know when I am getting better because gradually I can see some good things in my life. Then my motivation comes back and I feel like doing things again.
It's difficult to know what to say to make you feel better nohorn but I wish you so much luck with your recovery. It ain't easy to cope sometimes but I hope that there will come a time when you too can have a half full glass!
Best wishes and hugs, Maz xxx

Hi nohorn - yes, I've been through it, and out the other side, and am well now - but you have to want to do it (which it sounds as if you do) and you have to seek medical help. I had hypnotherapy for anxiety and depression - which combined made life very hard indeed - the treatment lasted several years overall but gradually I was able to take back my life. Go seek help.
I wouldn't say depression is "rampant" but there is a lot of it about, and until you have a clinical diagnosis, the way to treat your particularly experience of it won't be clear. I know it's easier said than done, but appreciate the small things which you can appreciate - being alive, the sun being out, a friend, being able to see or hear...and take it slowly, one step - even a small one - at a time.
We may indeed be in control of our own destinies but that doesn't mean we have to do it alone, we all need help along the way. Go see your GP.

Thanks Builder: I never used that feature before, and you are right there is good advice on that thread. I can sure relate to some of those descriptions.
I know once you have those depression ditches engraved in your brain, particularly when you are young, then thereafter when the going gets tough, the ugly paths take over nearly all thoughts lock into the ditches . And you suffer, suffer, till you somehow begin to heal.
