Now her sister is complaining other people didn't do enough to find out.

Some sister - why didn't she investigate ? Family rift she claims.

However, it does seem to expose some shocking Welfare mismanagement.

Even though she was estranged from her family they could have kept a bit on an eye on her somehow. The knew where she lived when they wanted to tell her about her father.
Yes agencies and others were at fault but the family has a brass neck to complain about them.

Did the utility companies just cut her off, or were all her bills paid by direct debit for three and a half years?

JimF, thats a good point, she must have had a bit of money in the bank for direct debits for all that time, and no doctor follow up if she was having treatment ? very sad

The family claim that she "aggressively rejected" them, believing her family were set to harm her.
If any contact from the family caused her extreme distress and agitation I can understand why they believed it best to stay away.

We all have the right to reject help from welfare agencies and unless it is deemed necessary to commit a person to a hospital or other facility there is little that can be done.

It is very sad and I can't understand how the gas safety checks were carried out after she died.

Her Disability Living Allowance had been stopped but her other benefits were paid in to her account and her direct debits continued to be paid, although I believe her gas had been cut off.
So her rent and council tax, if she had to pay them, were still being paid.

It bothers me that this could happen to someone I know and I know from experience that if someone doesn't want to accept help from people, there's not a lot you can do about it.

There is nothing that can be done, Barsel, except in very extreme cases. Social workers get criticised if they are perceived as being heavy handed and also if they are lax.
