Bbc Iplayer Not Working On Smart Tv
19 Answers
Can anyone help me out here with suggestions. Suddenly i can't get BBC Iplayer to load on my TV. The router was switched off accidentally, and after this, everything is back connected but I-Player wont work. I keep getting an error code 04002, something went wrong loading this programme. I have tried various channels but nothing works.
I have tried all the bbc troubleshooting stuff, making sure firmware is up to date, and it is, uninstalling and re-installing the iplayer, disconnecting and reconnecting to the internet. The only thing it suggests is to take the tv back to factory settings, which I have no idea how to do, and have lost the instruction book.
Iplayer is the only thing we watch on this particular tv, so without it, the tv is pretty much useless. We have no tv ariel now, and our sky is only to one tv. Multiroom seems a bit too expensive to bother. We have a laptop and can watch iplayer on that very easily so I know it's more likely to be an issue with the tv rather than the internet connection, which is good and pretty fast.
Any suggestions welcome before I give up and chuck the tv altogether!!

You don’t need the manual but it is probably available online.
Another option is to cast the programme from your laptop to the tv but really it would be better to get the tv working properly.
Have you tried disconnecting your tv from the WiFi and reconnecting?

I tried casting it as well but it would only cast to the tv in the other room. We like the little tv in the day time as the room it’s in is warmer and lighter due to a large window. Have to consider heating bills these days.
I’ll have to go back into the settings and see if I’ve missed the place where you can do a reset.

I find the iPlayer app on my smart TV useless.
Searching is really difficult, and very often when I finally tell it to show something, the app crashes.
Far easier to search on the app on my phone and cast it.
I think you need to find out why your phone won't cast to that TV. Do you use the cast symbol on the phone's iPlayer app?

I’m using the little cast icon on the iPlayer on my phone. iPhone. Won’t cast to this tv.
I’ve gone back to full initial set up, retune etc on tv but no effect. Haven’t tried dns settings yet. Also not connected with an Ethernet cable. I’m sure I have one so can give that a try.
It’s so odd as it was working fine a few days ago.

It seems that a Chromecast would work with an iPhone, so that is still an option.

This is now all very strange. I tried everything that had been suggested, other than not buying whatever needed to cast from my phone. Nothing seemed to work. So I gave up and for four days watched iplayer on my laptop.
I was about to give up entirely and get rid of the tv, but decided to have one more go. This time, it did load programmes, but when choosing a programme, what came up was different from the one I had chosen. I had, though noticed, that there was a freeview app, with iplayer on it, so tried that. This time it worked, loaded the programmes and the one I wanted was there.
I have absolutely no idea why it's suddenly started to work again, it doesn't load very quickly, not nearly as quick as it does on the laptop, which suggests to me that it's the tv rather than the internet connection. The tv is 6 years old, so maybe it can't handle any further software. There is no more software available, as the setting show it's all up to date. So - who knows. For the moment it's working, but I have no idea what, if any of the measures I tried did the trick.
