Apparently she is vulnerable and has a problem with alcohol which had become worse recently due to menopause. Hopefully she will be found.

Given the 'vile theories' of her disappearance which apparently continue to be posted on FB, and which have 'upset her family deeply', perhaps the police felt they had to release this information about Nicola's problem with alcohol.
I can imagine what 'theories' these reports allude to and if this practice is ended, then the police statement of yesterday will have served a huge purpose. I will add the usual, IMHO, of course.
And i would hazard a guess that her family would have consented to the release of the statement as i have read nothing of any 'outrage' from their end. Though there's plenty of Joe Public outrage:-/

As I said before, the Old Bill dont release all the information they have for a number of reasons.

Of course the arm chair detectives think watching an episode of Silent Witness qualifies them for 'experts'. Well in this case I hope they are happy with themselves as plod (and the family) had no alternative but to release it.

Did anyone see the interview with her partner on TV. Considering all the *** he has had to put up with from social media, he did so well. He was so composed.

It was her partner who gave that info to the police, they said so in the press conference.
If they had added her parents were in agreement, I would tend to believe it more, but I really don't see how giving this info to the general public would be of any help and I do believe people's views may have changed on her knowing this.
Personally, I'm not sure I believe it, and if it were true, why did he let her drive the children to school every day?

Barsel, if the lass has an alcohol problem, it is probably on record or, at the very least, her whole family and friends would know about it. All of which means it's probably true.

My newspaper detailed the route Nicola would take when walking the dog. There was a part of the trail that was not covered by CCTV.

I do hope the police have exhausted all lines of enquiry relating to that.

Ken, if she is/was an alcoholic, then I understand her friends and family would know about it, but I don't think the police needed to broadcast it to the whole world, and I don't understand how this helps their case.
Lottie, I wasn't speculating she takes her children to school, that is a known fact that either she or her partner does that and she did it on the day she went missing.

Barsel, the statement wasn't released in order to help their case. It's to (hopefully) stop the vile posts on FB.
I'm assuming (and i know i shouldn't) that some of the posts suggest the husband has something to do with her disappearance.

Ken, I honestly can't see how the police telling the public she had problems with alcohol would stop the trolls from saying whatever it is they've been saying. I don't know what they've been saying as I don't go on social media.
We were told originally that everything was fine in their home and friends were saying what a lovely person she is and everyone took an interest and lots of people were out looking for her.
Then we are told she has problems with alcohol and some people, some people, will probably be thinking, oh well, I'm not going to put myself out looking for an alcoholic.
They have destroyed her reputation and the poor girl can't defend herself.

Barsel, apparently some of those in the know about Nicola's alcohol problem were threatening to sell her story to the press. They don't appear to be too upset by her problem being made public. And no-one can 'sell her story' now that we all know.
