Yes it can be argued she's being honest about her views, but she's being not being honest in saying it won't affect her leadership. If your beliefs are so deep-grained, there's absolutely no doubt they will have a strong influence.
A politician whose stance is not to introduce controversial legislation and inflict it on the public is far preferable to one who is keen to have their questionable desires passed by the bucket-load, knowing it is difficult for future politicians to revert it later.
