Looks like a straight question isn't going to get a straight answer, naomi. Maybe some background noise about community cohesion, cultural differences and basically getting a free pass for the sins of Empire. The big problem is though that many adherents are ready and willing to step up for Allah and honour. Mentalists.
This seems to be ridiculous to me. I know from past experience that a copy of the Koran in English is not regarded as holy - or it wasn't 30 yrs. ago - because of inaccuracies in translation meaning it could not be regarded as the words of Allah through Mohammed. There are only a few copies that are regarded as holy. If I remember rightly they were copied from Mohammed's words by 5 scribes. I may well be wrong on this, it was a long time ago, but something like that.
Translations didn't count - as I was informed when I read the Koran and used it to argue points in R.E. lessons.
Jourdain, all copies of the koran are regarded by Muslims as sacred. There are millions who don’t speak Arabic and the book is translated into many languages.
taking "woke" to the ridiculous.. kids do daft things..autistic kids do even dafter at times..and it seems he was kind of encouraged by others knowingly..teaching at an all time low.. deal with it miss ! done dusted and forgotten..move along kids and don't do it again !
islam and muslims seem to have carte blanche in th uk, do as thye please in the name of social cohession, this young lad and the teacher last year, death threats are allowed it seems or tolerated with a mmm hushed low tones, better do as they say or else.
Sorry. I don't think I worded that very well, Jourdain. You are right insofar as in Arabic the Koran is at its most sacred but Muslims still demand respect for their book in any of its forms. Most Muslims don't speak Arabic and depend upon translations.
Many claimed that Shamima Begum was to young to know what she was doing at age 15, 12 months older than this child at the time.
An Autistic child is more likely to follow what other children around them are doing, because they have suddenly become part of what they would normally see to be excluded.
But it appears this child at 14 years knew it was wrong. REALLY?
naomi - it would seem that they are trying to play it both ways. An argument made, which was supported by an English translation of the Q'ran, was deemed invalid because it was a translation and translations were looked down on as not proper Q'rans.
Many parents wanted their sons to become Imams and they sent them for extra time at the mosque on Fridays to learn the book by rote in arabic. This meant they missed school time of course.
I don’t know who was arguing about it, jourdain, but if you go to Birmingham city centre, for example, you’ll often find a stall there where Muslims trying to generate interest in Islam give away copies of the Koran - in English.
iv heard muslims say in the koran all life is sacred, but....apostasy
being gay, deafaming the koran or an image of mo is a death sentence
and the wrong kind of muslim, so really not so holy and divine and all things under god are erm sacred.
fender - I've not read the Q'ran for many years now. Yes, all life is sacred IF the lives are Muslims. Islam means Peace, yes it does, but to those who are Muslims. They are enjoined to bring everyone to Peace - anyone who does not accept is fair game.
