Last week my Windows Search stopped working in Windows 10.
When I went into Update & Security through Settings, I went through to get the specific Troubleshooter, which proceeded to tell me it had found problems but it was fixed.
It wasn't. Is anyone aware of a recent Windows update that might have caused this?
Thank you for replying barry1010.
I can use File manager but if I right click the Start button I get a pop-up which has 'Search' underneath File manager and it's that which doesn't now work. I also have a small 'Search' window immediately to the right of the Start button in the task bar. That
doesn't work either.
When I click either Search large pop-up appears which is blank and closes automatically after a few seconds.
Perhaps the Search service is not running. To check whether it is or not:
Press “Windows + R” and type “services.msc”
On the Run dialog, press “OK”
Under “Local services”, find the “Windows Search” entry. If its status is not "Running" then right-click it, and select “Start”. If it is running try selecting "Restart".
Thank you youngmafbog, I did try that but I could only type one letter in the box but it would accept no more, then the pop-up closed down as before.
Etch, thank you also. I'm also running Windows 10 Home 22H2, though build 19045.2673. Looking in Local services indicates Windows Search is running already. I clicked 'off' then restarted.
Problem still there. It's not the end of the world, just a nuisance.
