Need A New Phone
8 Answers
currently got a Samsung on sim only with 02 paying £11 a month. Best place to buy a new phone without having to lay out hundreds of pounds. Don't need it to be all singing and dancing, just phone calls and emails and access to facebook plus take the odd photo.

Interesting. If I bought this phone from Argos, how do I keep my old phone number (I have a Samsung A40), and transfer everything onto this phone? And do I have to pay anyone monthly, to use this new phone, like on a contract? Also how do I get a decent network coverage? I have a Tesco phone and the coverage where I live is awful. Sorry I am not technical at all…. Thanks all.
Smurf, if you are not in contract it is straightforward.
Pop your postcode in the box here https:/ /checke r.ofcom .org.uk /en-gb/ mobile- coverag e
Now you should know who can give you a good signal. Tesco uses 02 so avoid them.
Decide how many minutes/texts/data you need each month and find a PAYG sim card here https:/ /www.mo neysupe rmarket .com/mo bile-ph ones/si m-only/
Text PAC to 65075. This will give the code you need to keep your mobile phone number. When you have your new SIM card follow the instructions - you will need to input the code at some point.
Log in to your Google account on your new mobile and everything should simply be there including your contacts.
It seems complicated but it is easy. Just do your homework when choosing the new SIM. I pay £5 a month with Smarty

Hi, Smurfchops.
The Samsung A40 and A04s both use the same size SIM card. (it's actually a 'nano-SIM'). So you could simply take the card out of your old phone and put it into the new one. It would work straight way but you'd still be with Tesco Mobile (which uses O2's masts to provide you with a signal).
A better way of doing things for you might be to get a new SIM from, say, Asda Mobile. (I'm suggesting Asda Mobile as they use Vodafone's network, which might give you a better signal than you're getting O2. They're also one of the cheaper networks to go with and, as I use Asda Mobile myself, I'm happy to recommend their service).
With Asda Mobile you purchase 'bundles' to suit your needs. While it's possible to set them up as 'recurring', so that they're automatically paid for each month from your debit card (which is what most people do), there's no actual contract involved; you're free to swith to another bundle (or indeed to stop using Asda Mobile altogether) at any time. So you're not tied into anything.
If you only use your phone for calls and texts, plus (say) just checking the weather or the news from time to time (rather than, say, watching lots of YouTube videos) you only need to pay a fiver per month to get 3GB of data, plus unlimited calls and texts. A tenner a month will get you far more data though (12GB) which is more than enough for most people's needs. (That's the bundle plan which I use myself).

Your new SIM will initially have a different phone number on it to your old one but it's a simple process to get your old number transferred over to your new phone:

Once you've set up your email account on your new phone, you should automatically find that all of your old emails are on it. (i.e. you don't need to copy them across).
Everything else can be copied across by following the instructions here:

^^^ My post crossed with Barry's. Smarty uses Three's network. (It's actually owned by Three anyway). So, if you decided to go with Smarty, you'd be steering clear of O2's network and might therefore get better coverage than you're currently doing with Tesco Mobile.

Buying a new phone, getting a new SIM, transferring your number and getting everything set up seems a lot more complicated than it really is.
Deciding on the new phone and SIM card are the hardest bits, and Buenchico has got the phone sorted.
Changing to Smarty was a very easy process, easier than the last time I switched providers anyway. 12GB for £8, 60GB for £10 or 4GB for £5, all unlimited calls and texts, cancel any time.
