Can someone tell me the answer to this calculation please?
393-(78-(91-89)) and also (393+91)x(78/(89-50))-85

is the first one 318?
393 - (78 - (91-89)), start with the inner bracket
393 - (78 - 2), next bracket
393 - 76
317
bum
(393+91)x(78/(89-50))-85, inner bracket first
(393 + 91) x (78/39) - 85 do both brackets
484 x 2 - 85, do x next
968 - 85
883
First one:
393 - (78 - (91-89))
= 393 - (78 -2)
= 393 - 76
= 317

Second one:
(393 +91) x (78/(89 - 50)) - 85
= 484 x (78/39) - 85
= (484 x 2) - 85
= 968 - 85
= 883
it's BODMAS, just paste the whole thing into google (replace x with * in the second one)
317
883

Ok, thanks all.
TTT some people need a bit of a help when using BODMAS, especially with multiple brackets. It's good to be able to do things without relying on someone/something else all the time!
yes that is the purpose of the acronym. With nested brackets it can only be inside most first.
no they dont do BODMAS as skool

I THINK it is because computers/calculators dont, may not do BODMAS as we were taught to do
so now you have to pay attention to input

checked: google does return 1 + 5x5 as 26. oo-er Mrs!

bodmas and proper fractions ( a half plus a third)
there are millions out there who were defeated by this at skool

I hadnt realised. Einstein, this isnt
