We have been invited to a FD party. Ordinarily I would refuse but this couple are very good friends and I want to get into the spirit of things for them! The theme is Victoria and the Raj.

It's probably easier for me since I could just buy something off Amazon for about 40 quid or to be honest, with the bodices, petticoats and stuff I already have (plus the ability to run up a cheap skirt or something on the sewing machine) I could either do a Victorian lady or a Victorian tart.

Mr BM is far more difficult. Apart from the fact that he is opposed to dressing up, it is not quite so easy to knock something up for him on the sewing machine.

Any ideas, please?

Alternatively, any traditional-style Indian pyjama suit ought to qualify, I feel. (Note the 'More items you might link' bit beneath the main image): Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation
A three-piece suit, together with a high-collared shirt, might fit the bill too: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/12/British_men_and_women_in_India_during_the_Raj_%288%29_-_LIFE.jpg
Can you get any ideas from this?
Sorry about that,will try again

Barmaid, if you don't want to spend too much time and money on it, do you have any charity shops nearby?

Mr BM saw my screen with the bathing suit on it. He is now in the 'not very happy' zone. Whereas i am sniggering.

Some great ideas, folks, thanks. He is currently saying he will go as Jack the Ripper because no one knows what he looked like and he can carry a big knife!! He is currently on the rota to work that weekend, so i may end up, going alone, as a tart. What could possibly go wrong?!
You may meet a Victorian vicar !!!
British army officer?
Gandhi's a bit late for the Victorian era, he didn't really get going till the 20th century.
