Parcel Delivery Etiquette
31 Answers
Hi. I keep taking in parcels for my neighbour - more so me than they do for me. Royal Mail/courier tells me they'll put a note in their door to let them know their parcels are with me. However, they (neighbours)never knock on my door to collect them from me and I usually have to take them to them, even if it's the next day, as I usually wait for them to come to me. Who, really, should knock first when it comes to matters as these?

We don’t do parcels to neighbours here. We all seem to have a safe place and our etiquette is not to do it. But should we receive one for any reason I would wait for someone to call round for it. I’m not running about looking to see if they are home yet.

I would expect neighbours to come and collect from me, but I have the confidence of a large front covered porch and live where nobody walks by our house so no fear of parcels being stolen.
Also perhaps your neighbours want to disturb you so wait for you to bring the parcels to them when convenient. I'm antisocial when it comes to people calling round.

I'm in a small block of flats, and I'll often take parcels(mostly Amazon) for my next door neighbour and a couple 2 doors down as they all work. And vice versa. If I see my neighbour get home I'll often just take it over.
But, several times when it's been Evri/Hermes I've had to search for it because the idiot driver doesn't put a card through the door and leaves it with people downstairs. Those neighbours never brought items upstairs to me. I wonder if they would have eventually.

You can do what you like. You can wait for the neighbours to come and collect. You can take it over when it's convenient to you, if they haven't collected it before. Or you can say to the postie that it's not convenient.
And this can change from one delivery to the next. It's your choice.

Can't believe this is even a question - if you don't want to take them in then don't but I am always happy to help someone out and would be pleased if someone did the same for me - I even call out to couriers or postmen when they are standing on a doorstep saying I will take it if they are not in. I then wait to see if their car is there or lights are on and pop it over to them. On an estate where most work during the day it is quite a frequent occurence and you never know if someone is waiting for an urgent parcel.
