How do you currently rate AB?

I used to enjoy it immensely, it was my numero uno social media site. Unfortunately I now only come on because of habit rather than looking forward to the banter as I once did.

My enjoymentometer is at about 20%

A tad patronising nicebloke, I am sure you didn't mean to be. We know the theory... But when you hit your head against the proverbial brick wall often enough you realise it doesn't work, and just gives you a headache. I ask questions, I try starting threads, but mostly I am not going to start the let's see how far this goes type because I don't see any value in them....

Just what I was thinking, nicebloke. We all have the remedy. Post something interesting.
Trouble is, there are those on here that aren't capable of giving nice answers and think it's clever to either be rude or make supposedly funny comments. It's why I post few questions and use Google to get information.

It's great to have a bit of banter, but not always appropriate.
I drop in most days, and used to find the News section useful. However with all the non news idiotic stuff and youtube videos being posted by certain users I no longer comment on certain members posts. It makes me angry that some comments get removed when others which are far more inflamatory are left, and I then find myself trawling through the meaningless questions often from newbies and giving sometimes less than polite answers and the later in the night the worse it gets. My enjoyment % is probably about 50/50 but that's because I feel compelled to wind certain people up. I wish the site would return to a place where current affairs could be discussed in a grown up manner and the odd bit of banter was entertaining.

I ask questions, I try starting threads, but mostly I am not going to start the let's see how far this goes type because I don't see any value in them. We used to have more birders, gardeners, and movie addicts. They have probably tended to relocate to special interest sites.

What we have lost are the posters who could make you laugh out loud, either intentionally or by accident, and everything else seems a little sanitized in a way.
I am not asking for a return to smut central, although at times it was fun in the uniquely British 'carry on' style, but there seems to be a limit to types of threads you can start that someone won't post a link to when it was done a few years ago implying it can't have fresh legs
I don't know what the solution is, maybe there isn't one but when you think about those who dont come here now who are still alive and kicking you realise what we have lost.

We have no equivalents to McFluff, Boo, China doll, etc and I think the site is the poorer for it.
Maybe a poll on which members should be put in AB jail for a while, or a strike be organised where we all go offline till they are dealt with.
I wouldn't miss it if it vanished. Can be boring and the downright nasty comments if you dare to have a different view from others is gobsmacking! My enjoymentmeter - 20%, same as OP.
I would like it to stay, although there are some users that I would likr to disappear !
I would just like a ban to be a ban with no coming back under a new name within say five years. Can't be policed effectively I suspect.
"We have no equivalents to McFluff, Boo, China doll, etc and I think the site is the poorer for it." I actually think we have several members who are more than capable of being as entertaining as those 3 (and many more in fact) but most of their posts would be removed. You only have to read what you used to go on 10 years or so ago in CB and it would nearly all get removed nowadays.
Posting something interesting that hasn't been done to death is a mammoth task.
"My enjoyment % is probably about 50/50 but that's because I feel compelled to wind certain people up."

How does setting out to wind up anyone help the situation?
I think any topic can be done again. There are always people who weren’t there the first time around.

I absolutely agree.

If members could lay out in hard and fast terms exactly what they regard as acceptable and appropriate it would help some of us in crafting responses.

There may even be a case to be made for an Answerbank Lite, a place where only the vanilla, most anodyne of questions and answers is acceptable.

Of course members are known to let the mask slip from time to time, exposing the roughness beneath so it coud be problematic if their pretensions were carried over to the new Land Of Makebelieve.
I wouldn't call nicebloke's post patronising - intentionally or otherwise (though mine might be).

We are all important on AB. Perhaps it is all down to our individual perspective. Remember, it is not just the editing that changes over time - we all change as we age. Just have a look at your own profile. When did you last post a "fun/amusing" thread? Back in the day, did your posts appear in more light-hearted threads? When did you get bogged down in "news" just to post doggedly against another's point of view? Lol, whenever did you see someone change their pov after a full discussion/debate/argument/challenge fight?

I know times are hard. We worry about our money, health, job, family, the economy, the politics, the planet, etc., 'twas ever thus. Life is short enough, we lose dear friends and family, both in AB and in our personal lives. We just have to keep going or wallow in our miseries.

We can be the change we want to see!

btw, roy, you can put me down for 80-100%+, or as a certain Brummie used to say "I'll give it 5" ;)
I used to love it and found the 'News' section interesting and enjoyable. Now I rarely comment and a lot of it is boring. I long ago gave up responding to some posters. It never made any difference and I sometimes got an unnecessarily sharp response.

I'm very sad about this and do enjoy it when some of us can have good conversations on, say, Literature. %-wise, probably about 40.
"How does setting out to wind up anyone help the situation?" I probably don't set out to, but the inane questions and comments frustrate me into giving an equally inane answer. Especially with the influencer type posts where they are obviously spamming.
There is such a poor take up on lighter stuff that isn't formulaic. And yes my activity has changed but it's in response to the changes in the responses of others as well as a fear of suffering reprisals if I say what I am really thinking.

For example: there is no way a thread like the apotheosis would happen today, just not enough left here prepared to embrace the absolute silliness required, and probably a lack of holy virgins... AYG was the last one....
Fitdarren, you wouldn’t miss it because you’ve only been here a few months. Others have been here for many years - hence they would miss it.
