OH was in hosp. with suspected brain bleed - all now OK - and I never, ever want to go through the A&E experience again. Now have Shingles with the strain. It'll come out in a story eventually - or maybe I'll write to a paper again. Had some good reaction to letters/stories in the local press.
That apart. I enrolled on a 6 week course on Creative Writing at Bridlington under the aegis of Hull Uni. and it's the last week next Mon. I have been forced to dig really deeply. Sometimes it has really frightened me but I am writing as I never thought I could. This evening I have done what I hope is my final proof-read of a 2,250 word story as my major response from the course. If it still seems OK in the morning I'll send it off. Otherwise, the lecturer set the first page of Pride & Prejudice for us to use and to spin off from - that was quite fun. I don't know if it will all lead anywhere, but the lecturer writes scripts for Dr. Who and is very on the ball.
Also, there is a history of our church from 1078 until now which is out in a local mag. and the usual local newsletter contributions.
The distractions of major life events have, however, put the transcription of the old novel onto the back burner. :(
I'm disappointed that my 11 yr. old granddaughter hasn't yet managed to find the time to read my now completed 'unicorn' book. Kids! She'll be too old for it soon.
So, that's me, more or less. Hoping to do more as health issues settle. How about you? I know that you are nearing the end of your book and you really must keep going. I have it in mind to do what you are doing myself. It's important. Personal history needs to be communicated.
Off to bed now, painkillers just swallowed so I can get a decent night's sleep. Bonne nuit!

I have never really delved into creative writing, but I did attend a one day course run by my employers to assist written communication.
Our final task was to re-write the final paragraph of 'Doctor Jekyll And Mr Hyde in the style of RLS.
There were eleven of us, and we had to read our paragraph out loud, and the others had to guess if it was the paragraph from the novel, or clearly written by one of us.
I was thrilled beyond measure when all ten of my colleagues judged my paragraph to be the original, although as a music journalist, I have had vast practice at writing in an 'in house' style for different publications.
I think creative writing is very satisfying, and because it is a craft, like all writing, you can expand a basic talent into something really worthwhile.
Good luck to anyone who attempts it!

Hahahaha- my brudda asked me to write a family history suitable for his grandchildren, both under ten, to read to them
so I did and sent it off to him. Committed am-dram who had paid for private acting lessons. Family quotes from various ages " Hello Mrs Husband Hunter...." - daughter married for the third time. "No 2 wife so like no 3, no one cd understand why he had bothered to divorce no 2"
and when after a suitable gap I asked how it had gone,
he replied
o no I found I cdnt read it out them as it was like you talking and not me
ay thenk yew

You seem to be having a hard time at the moment. My only hard time was when our son started fitting one evening and was fortunate enough to be helicoptered off to St Mary's hosp. He was in a coma for a few weeks and eventually got over it and is now in his early forties, married and fine but childless; working on a book (non fiction) of his own.
Fortunately my wife and I are (and have been) more or less free from scary health issues; but the summer hols always come to an end, and we'll have to face that together or apart eventually.
We (you and I) are so far apart on some issues (Brexit, for one!) but what is really important is that one can see that we are all humans and all in it together and that fighting is the daftest thing we can do.
Sleep tight, petite. :-)

Sorry for starting a thread and then disappearing. I try not to come to AB, but it's always there tempting me when I am stuck in the middle of a sentence or para or spat between two of my characters. And of course there's the interesting female posters who aren't aggressive but who are intellectually stimulating (as most women are).
I've been stuck outside the front door today doing manly DIY. Unfortunately, most of my work doesn't show, but if it hadn't been done then the house would surely have collapsed.
I look forward to attempting not to bore any "Taking a Break" people. Best wishes, and sleep tight, mes ami(e)s.
Bisous.

Hi just catching up, finding it hard to find time as well, trying to sort out paperwork relating to mums ongoing care. Trying to work out what the queen of hell etc are going to do next is a welcome distraction at times. I am starting to build the attraction between her and the pathologist but it's hard, mainly keeping track of what form she is in at the time..... Especially as she is pretending to be her own daughter
