Tinnitus And Ear Wax Problems

I have started to have tinnitus and have seen on the Internet that this may be caused by an excess of hard ear wax. I have also started to feel dizzy and liable to lose my balance.
The NHS recommendation on the same site is to get someone to put drops of olive oil in the ears 4 times a day. I live alone and know no one who could help in this way.
Luckily, further research revealed that it is possible to buy a spray for £5.39 and apply it twice a day for 5 days.
I will make another report on 27th October.

make an appointment with your doctor you can't really clear heavy blockages with oil or any other over the counter stuff ,they have equipment to do this,in the daynurse part of the surgery

Are you able to put some on a wam tea spoon and tip it in and bung in some cotton wool?

However....tinnitus, loss of balance and vertigo (a sort of spinning dizziness) can be caused by several other things.....

Your doctor should be able to remove this hard wax for you. I met a little down's syndrome girl going to get the wax removed at the hospital but instead of being syringed it was being "vacuumed" out - must be a new thing out.

You needn't spend much on sprays, oils are good, olive is a bit thick, walnut or peanut is ok, (that is all that is in the patent products). But a doctor or nurse should have a look with an instrument. If it's hard it can be softened with the oil and removed with a vibrating water jet instrument, I had it done a few months ago, completely painless, and the result to my hearing was amazing.

Thank you Sqad and fiction-factory. Thank you also Ivor4781 for your good advice. I tried to speak to the Practice Nurse before buying the spray but she was busy with another patient. I am lucky that the Practice is modern and well equipped and fully expect them to have the ear cleansing device you mention.

I hoped that by posting information about the spray was that I was told by the pharmacy that this is relatively new. I hoped it might be useful for others with similar problems.

I had a similar problem to yours. If the spray is a saline type liquid it won't do much good.

Otex can help a bit. In my local surgery the waiting time for the nurse to syringe was 4 weeks. Half way through, I couldn't bear it anymore and bought a syringe from Amazon. It was great, and by the time I had my appointment there was not much for the nurse to do.
Olive oil would be difficult to put in your ear, even with someone to help you. Try Otex to start with.

I bought a dropper from the chemists and used that to put olive oil in my ears. No one helped me.

Someone medical or a practice nurse must look into your ears and say..........."Yes you have wax or no you haven't any wax"

It is that simple.

If you don't have wax, then all the above posts advising various forms of wax removal are irrelevant.

I still do not understand why living alone could create such a problem when putting olive oil in your own ears, arjay.

Sorry, I missed the bit where it was said you don't know if you have wax. It shouldn't take long to get an appointment for a nurse to look in your ears to determine that. It might take considerably longer to get a further appointment to have it removed (I don't know why they can't do it there and then), but as Tilly suggested, oil is easier to apply with a dropper.
