A friend is moving out of a flat in a few days. She has a sofa, tv and a single bed which she has tried to sell but has been unable to do so. She has no car or any way of transporting the items, is there anyway of gettiing rid of these items in a very quick and legal manner.

Thanks in advance

Her local council will take them away for a fee. How quick they will do it, though, I don't know.

Or she could try freecycle:

http://uk.freecycle.org/

If she chooses freecylce she must stipulate collection only. I have got rid of many unwanted items this way - and they all go very quickly.

Or a local charity - Salvation Army for example - may collect.
Ask your local Citizens' Advice Bureau if there are any hostels or homeless charities who will collect them for free? That way they go to a good home and help someone less fortunate.
Leave it on your drive overnight as my sister did (council were collecting it in the morning) and when you get up it may be gone!

Nice area she moved away from! :o)

Good (serious) advice from Ethel and andy :o)
The council took away my sofa, fridge and TV when i replaced them Just one phone call and it was arranged . But it was free they never charged me.
post a message on your local gumtree site, under 'freebies'.
If there is a PDSA charity shop in your area, they may collect and sell it. There are other charities who will collect furniture etc.
Thanks for that link Ethel. I've just joined as I invariably have loads of junk and also need some furniture for my new place which I rent uinfurnished
why not offer them to the new buyer or landlord for a small fee, it would work in both favours

Thanks everybody, have checked with the local council who will picking up. Incidentally Squirelpoo, your idea was initially used and was successful but unfortunately the landlord didn't want these last few items!
