I didn't either because phone too basic/old and only pay as you go.

My phone isn't a smart phone and also it was turned off because we have no signal in the house. An 85 year old in the village is pretty frail and had forgotten about it, or if he even knew about it. Anyway he wrapped up against the cold wind and set off to walk to the pond. Of course, the alert went off and, startled, he stumbled and very nearly fell in the road - a quick-witted dog-walker grabbed his arm. The elderly chap was very shaken and upset by the unwanted intrusion.
If we needed warning against a flood-risk, etc. someone would tell us. People stop their cars to yell out if there are sheep on the road, so I'm pretty sure we'd be warned of any oncoming disaster.

As I had just one mobile phone I couldn't do the testing I wanted. I could have not heard anything because it isn't on data, or because it was switched off in settings. I opted for both, but do wonder if either woud have sufficed.
