According to the head of the legitimate (Ukraianian) authority in Kherson, Russians are trying to forecably evacuate the local population, and are nicking everything in sight.
This is pretty much what happened in the lead-up to the liberation of Kherson city in November, however it seems unlikely that the russians would completely withdraw from Kherson oblast as it would leave Crimea cut off by land.

If Ukraine has established a bridgehead on the east/south/left bank of the Dnipro, they would not be able to stay there long I'd imagine as it's a desolate terrain, swampy and with no roads in or out. But they may be able to push back the artillery batteries that have been pounding the city since it was liberated.
I'd also not rule out the possibility that the whole thing is a feint to divert the russians from the real counteroffensive, as happened last autumn when Kharkiv oblast was largely purged of orcs.

I think the Beeb is too busy with the violence in Sudan - obviously the fault of the British....

Man's inhumanity to Man!

Do you think that the human race will ever be fully civilised? No wonder that I prefer cats.

Actually Peter I am surprised the BBC mentioned it.
It happened a week ago and many were sceptical it was true.
A Ukrainian official today claimed they were making good progress on that side of the river. Mostly counter battery fire: which means anti-artillery artillery. Just what’s needed to drive them back from their constant shelling of the city across the river
There also appears to be a film of their amphibious landing. All of which makes me wonder of this isn’t August 29 all over again. On that day Ukraine announced it was launching a major offensive in Kherson - this never really happened as stated: instead they sneaked up on the Russians in Kharkiv while everyone was looking elsewhere …

Never underestimate an angry cat.

The point is that humans consider themselves to be the superior species, intelligent and civilised.

Yet wars are still happening, mindless killing for no reason apart from greed and twisted ideals.

The people of Ukraine are suffering because of a war that they didn't start and that was started due to the arrogance of the Russian military and mad Vlad.

As a species we seem to be doomed, doomed I tell you!
