How To Start A Hotpoint Washing Machine?

Hi I have a wmfug_742p hotpoint washing machine.

Whenever I press the start button it goes green for about 5 seconds then it turns yellow. Soon after a red lock symbol appears on the display and it starts to flash and beep constantly untill I turn the power off.

Anyone know how to get the machine to start and make this lock symbol go away?

Yes the door is shut properly.

My best guess is that the door interlock has failed. A new one costs about £17 from buyspares.co.uk and should be easy enough to fit yourself.
