Unable To Recover Hacked Facebook Account

Having given my friend an unlock code to get back into his account it turned out he had been hacked and the same hacker used the code to take over my account. I went through the processes, having had my access details changed to theirs, and each time was sent an automated email which never happened, I'm guessing even though they sent it to my email the recovery was sent to theirs. I finally got a rep to contact me to tell me I'd sent my report to the wrong place (but it got a response so clearly wasn't) and they told me if you click the hamburger on your profile it says report this account > other reason and then use the menu to report they have been hacked. Sadly this option is not on the list and I am worn out of methods and suspect I have lost the account I have had for almost 20 years along with Instagram. If anyone here has that option I do not please report the account for me, I will message you.

I have been reminded that if they have diverted your email messages there is a method where they send codes to your friends to enter for you, which I've done once before, but I can't find or remember how to do it. It seems like the only way I can get back in.

***, no wonder I couldn't find it. No idea how I'm supposed to get back now.

It turns out the reason was very obscure, there's a technical issue between Facebook and Hotmail and half their replies don't get through. When I tried a different address I was fixed in a couple of minutes. Who'd have thought of that?
