high blood pressure
2 Answers
my nana is in spain on holiday and i've just found out she is in hospital over there with high blood pressure. i don't know much about this but her blood pressure is reading 204/110, which sounds very very high to me. they want to do a brain scan on her now and keep her in for at least 24-48 hours. obviously we're all worried sick now and would really appreciate any knowledge any of you may have about this. thanks.x
by the way she is 78 but usually fit as a fiddle, slightly obese and is currently on medication for high bp but it's never been really really high. thanks again.x

Her blood pressure does seem rather high, but I'm sure the doctors will take good care of her and won't let her out of the hospital until she is out of danger. It is so hard if you are far away when things like this happen, but I am sure she knows you are thinking for her and wishing her well again. Perhaps you could phone her and let her know that you are thinking of her. Just hang in there and take courage. I hope she soon gets better. Big hug :o) x
Well the ideal bp for a young person is 120/80 and as you grow older it rises. My mother-in-law has high bp at around 170/97 and is on tablets. My guess is that your nana has changed her eating habits on holiday, maybe a lot of salt laden foods, which has pushed it up even higher and being slightly obese won't help.
Don't worry, she is probably better off in a Spanish hospital then the NHS from my experiences !
