When in your life do you develop moles and freckles if you're not born with them? What are they? And why do we develop them as we grow?

I think freckles are actually skin damage. So each summer you tend to get more. As for moles, they seem to appear gradually.
I am getting a few freckles on the sides of my face..near my ears. I was told this was due to age. I am 'only' 38 (started with the freckles about 4 years ago) so god only knows how many I will have when I am 60.

Mr P likes freckles, which is a good job really.

But some young children have freckles on their faces ummmm so that means their skin is damaged from a young age, but could be right as you never see freckles on your belly or other bits you cover up. So what are moles and why do these develop?
this may explain some sis.

Looks like sunlight brings the pigments out more as the pigment is there to protect us from UV rays

Question Author
so redcrx if thats for freckles what are moles?
it gave details on moles there too:

"Moles

Moles are almost always a result of clustered pigment cells that grow at the spot where the epidermis (outer layer of the skin) meets the dermis (the layer underneath the epidermis).

Moles are permanent; they dont fade away in the winter like freckles sometimes do. Theyre round in shape, flat or elevated, and typically less than 3/16th of an inch in size. They are almost always benign, but the skin cancer melanoma often begins in a mole. For this reason any changes in the appearance of a mole should be evaluated by a physician."

Redcrx why would nephew have one already when he was born then, if pigment comes out to protect from uv?
moles are a collection of pigmentation under skin that accumulates at any time, sometimes at birth.

its hereditory as well and his mummy was born with a mole too
Don't know why the link doesn't work for you 4getalot ;o) naughty stuff? nothing of the sort..lol.

''A mole (or melanocytic naevus) is an abnormal collection of pigment cells present within the skin. These cells are known as melanocytes. Moles are extremely common. Most people are born with a few moles and develop others during their lives.

Keep an eye on your moles. Go and see the doctor if they begin to itch, increase in size or change colour.

What causes moles?

Most moles are simply the result of a harmless proliferation of the pigment cells within the deeper layer of the skin. A few of these moles, called congenital melanonaevi, are usually present at birth. But most develop spontaneously or are caused by exposure to sunlight and tend to appear on those areas of the skin that catch the most sunlight.

Most of these moles appear during the first 20 years of life, although they may continue to develop into the 30s and 40s. However, the majority disappear with age.''

and dont forget moles are meant to be a sign of luck in certain cultures.
When me and my brother were young we lived in Australia, I had no freckles but my brother was absolutely covered in them. My dad used to say that it looked like he'd been throwing rocks in a pool of Sh1t!!
Came back to uk and they disappeared, don't know what that means, just thought I'd let ya know! lol
