Andy Cheever thinks 1D left is 'CLOTBUR' this would fit in with 10A - expel from camp = 'untent' being 'un = a and 'tent' = french wine.

My mistake elderly. I have Untent for 10a and Clotbur for 1d but the copy from which I was answering your post has very small letters and I misread it.
