Three girls that I know, send their mum a Fathers' Day card and present every year. That's because ever since their armpit of a dad did a runner years ago, mum has put all her efforts, dedication and many sacrifices into bringing up her girls, The girls say that mum was also their dad, so they all treat her on Fathers' Day.

I have a friend the same Clarion, she too has three daughters and they put their wonderful Mum on a rightly deserved pedestal , she’s battled and won Cancer 3 times as well, truly a remarkable lady
I'm not crazy about this trend. No mother is a father, they are a mother.

I don't see why Mother's Days and Fathers Day have to be hijacked.

Not hijacked, LadyGC. Appreciation is the word your looking for. But they treat her at other times too.
//The girls say that mum was also their dad//

I think that's true. Single mothers have to be both - but for children it's better to have one happy multi-tasking mother than two miserable parents.
Ain't Facebook & co and their wee trends great?
I think that is a thoughtful acknowledgement of a lone parent fulfilling all the upbringing, care and so much more, usually undertaken by a couple.
I wasn't looking for any word, 10C.

Mothers have Mother's Day to be recognised. My mother was a single mother until I was 12 years of age. She wasn't my father.

I also know a couple of multi-tasking single fathers. Fathers can parent and run a household, too
They can even cook, Barry ;) My husband is getting very good at making chapatis.
I would like there to be a Granddad and Grandma Day for the Grandparents who help a lot in the upbringing of their grandchildren.
Why on earth would the mother in question want to be reminded of her 'armpit' of a husband?
Talking about cards, I must tell you have I made a fool of myself n a card shop quite a few years ago.
I was looking for Christmas cards that said to my daughter and her husband when I picked one up that said to my daughter and her wife.
I laughed and said to the girl that was stocking the shelves, Oh dear, look at the mistake they've made on these cards.
The girl explained to me there was no mistake. Doh.
bednobs, is that just in America?
In my opinion a father is not a mother so why buy a card? Even gay couples have two mums or two dads if they have kids.

Douglas @ 10.54:

"Ain't Facebook & co and their wee trends great?"

I don't understand that reply, Douglas. Maybe because I don't do FB, and never have.

Thanks for all the replies folks, but the girls are fully appreciative of mums efforts and aren't afraid to let her know. Your thoughts are respected.
