Is there an English word which indicates a sudden and unexpected movement made for catching somebody or something? For example, when somebody waits in hiding to attack a bird and then grasps it. I am looking for an onomatopoeia or an interjection. Thx.
I can't really think of any onomatopoeia... there are verbs that involve sudden movement: leap, rush, grab. When you have succeeded you might shout 'Yes!' or 'Gotcha!' (for 'I've got you!') but those aren't very poetic.
Onomatopoeia is the use of a word that resembles the sound itself, like 'murmer', or 'trickle'. I can't think of a word that resembles the sound of someone snatching something! For an interjection, Jno's 'Gotcha' seems appropriate. The word 'Woof' is also associated with sudden fast movement
how about "yoinked". i've seen that used in cartoons as in when in batman i think when they hit something and its says "pow!". what about "swiped" not all very onomatopaeic but it depends how you say it.
